Default VR6 Engine Swap??

I know that VW makes audi and that they have A LOT of interchangable parts, and saw a forum and someone suggested this engine swap. I have a 96 2.8qm with 140k miles that needs a timing belt done. Also has an oil leak coming from somewhere I haven't been able to chase it. And after reading about how these 2.8 12v cant be modded AT ALL lol this is starting to sound like a good idea. What all would I have to relace? or would this be a complete money sucking job

if you even have to ask how much its going to cost dont even worry about doing this. if you want to know what you need to replace to do the swap. go open your hood. you need to replace everything you see, and probably some stuff you cant see.

I dont know much about it either. but i've heard about it quite a bit, also that you can get like 700HP out of the VR6.
that'd be nice

i had a 12v in my first a4, hated it. Sold it and bought a 1.8t, waayy better imo. 034 makes most of the parts you need to swap in the vr6, however, there are a lot of custom cutting and what not to fit the vr6 in. Way cheaper to sell your car and buy a 1.8t or maybe even an s4

All engine swaps are costly. Well unless its an old chevy and your going from one small block to another. My last car took about 3k for a simple swap that was bolt in.

also, if you cant find an oil leak, then what makes you think you could swap in a different engine?

I've priced it out, figure $15k-$16k in parts alone.

034 did it, and they now sell most of the key parts for making it fit. For example, a custom flywheel and adapter plate for fitting the VR6 to a B5 quattro transmission, custom starter motor/mount for longitudinal installation, and a custom engine cradle for mounting the engine in a B5.

Of course, each of those parts run around $500; and they're only the basic basics. After that $2000, you've still got to buy an engine, a clutch, standalone engine management, brakes and suspension to stop and handle the power, and all the usual bits for a fully custom turbocharger setup; not to mention all the internal bits you'd want for the engine itself.

And THEN, you've got to put it all together and make it work.
