Talking Wanting to upgrade

Hey everyone!

I have an 01 1.8t that I am wanting to do some work to. I want to get a better turbo, tune, and all the necessities in making it a more fun car to drive with my Evo friends. The only issue is that I don't know the best things to do to my car. Any tips?? I haven't done any extreme work to my car yet, so I'd like to get it going in the right direction the first time and not have to go back fixing something I did wrong.

Thank you in advance for the help!!!

Cody

Read the sticky posts at the top of this forum and the top of the A4 General forum. All the info is there and you can develop specific questions based on the reading.

I could have a conversation about this over an entire case of beer. And I could maybe cover half of it. You'll need to do a little research and ask some specific questions.

Well, what is the best turbo to put on a stock 1.8 engine and what tuning company would give me the most "bang for my buck?" I know eventually I'm going to have to change internals, but these are what I'm wanting to get started on currently.

The best turbo is one that you do research on... There are tons of options listed in the FAQ and sticky. But to make a long story short, a lot of guys do a k04 swap or they use a bolt on kit. GT28RS is a good option, but you will need to do so much more than just the turbo. You will need a FMIC, injectors, pump, turbo back exhaust, a good tune, probably should upgrade brakes because of all the extra power, suspension to keep that power on the ground, tires with more grip, stronger clutch....you're going to have to do quite a bit to get it to compete with your Evo friends...and have money set aside for when **** breaks...which it will. I would just do a k04, couple bolt ons, apr tune, and be happy with it IMO.

APR I believe does free reflashes if you get some upgrades. Speaking for my VW, if I bought an apr downpipe from them, they do a free stage 2 flash. I would just give them a call and see what specials that they have going on. There is a shop in Aberdeen, MD called NGP and they are awesome to work with. You can just send your ECU off to them and they will have it back to you in 2 days ready to go if you cant make it out to them. REVO is also a very popular tuning option. You would be suprised what just an APR tune does for the stock turbo...really wakes the car up.

LOL no they don't. APR doesn't give away anything for free.

OP, if you want an upgrade, decide on a turbo first and go from there. Unless you have upgraded rods, you wont be doing anything crazy. Also, you will need about 3-4 thousand to get everything going, and that's a little conservative.
