If you look at the link I posted, it's the "FREE V Drive Belt" that they list.

I also got my cam chain tensioner/valve cover kit from Blauparts.

Ordered parts today, since ill be doing the timing belt and cam chain tensioner at the same time... should I still use the diy for doing the can chain tensioner without removing the timing belt? What would be the best approach? Thanks guys

They're unrelated, but I would finish one before doing the other. If you take off the timing belt and then start moving the cam chain around you're gonna risk messing up the cam timing.

I'm thinking about pulling the bumper off first for more room and doing the tensioner 1st and then continue with the timing belt job.

Default just do the timing belt kit

if it ain't broke, don't fix it (other than timing belt). Your special German car has many ways to alert you when it is time to do something. Relax - or go broke. Or buy a newer one, which I suspect, ain't an option. enjoy, I've done timing belt kits on both a B5 and B6 ( both sitlll in the family) and picked the B6 one up locally since I'm in Jersey and EuropoParts is nearby for me to pick up and save shipping.

Did you even read the thread? He's already diagnosed the things he's fixing, he's just asking for advice about the most efficient way to do the work.

Default thanks for the feedback

Oh my. I gave advice/opinion (just do the timing belt kit), and identified a reliable source of the kit (EuropaParts). Yes, I was probably a little wordy. He can choose to disregard with out any hurt feelings on my part. kind of like people do on forums.

^?

anyway, here's the list of parts/kits I've ordered and should be receiving today through friday:

-Blauparts Timing Belt kit (included free Serpentine Belt Tensioner Arm) Audi A4 Timing Belt - Audi A4 Timing Belt Kit - 1.8 Liter

-Blauparts Valve Cover Cam Chain Tensioner Gasket Kit
Audi A4 Valve Cover Gasket Kit - Audi A4 Valve Cover Gaskets AEB

-1/4" and 3/8" KynarŽ Standard Check Valves from usplastic.com

-3.5mm 10 Feet RED Silicone Vacuum Hose Tubing

-and got lucky on ebay, good deal. Inlet hose is slightly used and the other two are new. Audi A4 Volkswagen Passat Silicone Hose Kit 1.8t Samco VenAir New & Used 1996-01 | eBay

The tubing and check valves should fix all the minor boost line leaks and the new turbo hoses should add some gain. I chose a color other than black for everything to make it easier to spot oil leaks, black oil on red will stand out more than black on black. My B5 happens to be red so I figured why not go with red.

Im also adding a steering wheel boost guage while I'm at it and installing the snub mount I bought a while ago but never used.

thought about getting a n75j valve but I'll wait and see if all this will solve the surging issue.

anything else you guys think I should change?

Default You are on the right track

CCA4 might even confirm, that you can't fix everything and believe that you are done. If your car won't run after all these fixes, how will you trouble shoot? Good luck and welcome to the Audi world. It is indeed a labor of love and I've got parts in the mail coming right now. I wouldn't have it any other way.
