not sure if you read my previous post about my timing belt breaking, but long story short the worst of the worst has happened. i now hold 140lbs of compression in cyl. 1, 25 lbs in cyl. 2, 0lbs in cyl. 3, and something like 140ish in 4. basically, my mechanic said the cheapest option i have right now is a whole new motor.

so i have 2 serious quesions
-if the head is shot, and im holding no compression, is the easiest/cheapest/quickest thing to do is swap in another motor?
-and if i do swap in a new motor, what classifieds should i look under? i have a 99.5 1.8T quattro and 5 speed. can i fit a 2.0T easily since the motor will be out? if i stay w/ a 1.8T what cars can i find this engine in? are the VW's even compatable?

and one a less serious question what kind of $$ do you think im looking at?

thanks for any help i really need it, luckly school is almost over so thats out of the way, but i still need to get to work everyday if possible. ill probably end up borrowing my grandmothers hundai, so you can all see how quickly i would like to make things happen right now.

There is someone selling a complete AEB engine in the classifieds right now. You will need a AEB or ATW engine since they will bolt right in (o58 block). However, if you use a ATW, you will need a small port intake manifold. Most cases a used engine will be cheaper than rebuilding the old block and then you can sell off the messed up head to someone looking to upgrade to build and then the block for someone looking for a spare. This will also be faster if you can source an engine fast.

No, the 2.0T wont work in your car. A VR6 will work with the help of 034 and a standalone ecu. probably more work and money you are willing to spend.

 

yeah as much as i would love to do the best motor swap possible right now, this isnt a good time, i need the car back more then i need it to be faster. so basically i need to find one of those engines to make this an easy swap. thats exactly what i was lookin for, thanks.

anyone do a motor swap recently and knows about how much this should cost??

He is online now, so send him a pm now. If he doest have rods/pistons for the block, let me know, i have the same kind that came out of there (20mm piston and rods) together and ready to drop in ill sell you cheaper than im asking for them. They do need new rings.

 

also, if this motor doesnt work out, are there any VW classifieds that i should look in that may have the same motor? or would they not be compatable w/ the quattro trans. i am a member of VWvortex and they have a ton of classifieds in there, so if i can search in more then just the audi parts section mabye i can find a better deal.
