2.7tt and 4.2 v8. They are moderate to hard in difficulty. Look to spend about 10k+ from start to finish.

depends on hard hard you search, and if/who does the work


there is a guy on az doing a budget 4.2 build and i think he was looking to be at 5k or less and it is doable, but finding everything is not quick on that budget



but back to op.... you can put whatever motor you want in any car, depending on $'s you want to spend.... also need to make sure whatever motor you put in is legal


some states won't let you legally keep a car registered w/ a motor that never came in it... ie v8

but you could do a 2.7tt since it is still a v6, or could change to a 1.8t

 

under federal law, its also illegal to put an older motor in a newer car. as far as swaps go, skys the limit. good luck

 

Sounds about right to me for a professional job; maybe a little low if anything.

 

My normal advice in situations is to simply sell your 1996 A4 and buy say a 2000 S4 with lower miles and in better shape; it'll cost you a lot less money.

 

Yup, you can put a 7-turbo Harley engine in the car if you want. Chances are you can't register it. Anything can go in though but we can't tell you specifically what - that depends on your skills and/or budget.

 

Work with what you got. Get some head work done. Bore it out. Get a turbo or supercharger. You can make nice power with a blown or turbo v6.
