I have this problem with my 99 a4. whenever i go above 50 for example in the freeway car starts to wiggle left and right. you guys know what i mean? its like the wheels keeps on turning a quarter inch left and right, so **** too dangerous. you guys know what i mean? maybe its because of my blown rear shocks? or is it something else? hope you caan help me guys..thanks..

 

the car work issued me does that, work is to cheap to fix the bloody thing.
I bet you need control arms and tie rod ends.

 

have you had your car aligned recently? because if the front end toe is positive, it would cause the front end to be jumpy...

 

yeah got it aligned recently, its just because i got new tires and the steering is way off. probably its the tie rod and tie rod ends. do you guys know where to buy those? and how do you know that it is busted? cause i think since the first owner got the car they havent touched the car since then and it already has a 160k miles on them all they just did is the tbelt and the water pump.

I would stay clear of any meyle products, they fail fast.

 

yah sounds like your tie rod ends or control arm bushings. does your car make any clunking from the front end when you go over bumps? and if you wanna check your tie rod ends just jack up the front end and wiggle the wheel. If the tie rod ends are loose or bad it will wiggle and you will notice. if they were good their would be no freeplay there. I had a car that did this it was a nissan altima only it did it when i went over a little bump my whole back end would shake.. scary ****. But i got under and looked and the arm that adjusted my camber on my back wheels was bent. Straightened it out and it worked no problem

 

i checked the ends and wiggle it, it has no free play on it. right now im on a tight budget, i cant afford getting the whole control arms front kit.. i can only afford either control arms or tie rod ends. i want your guys opinions which is the best to replace in order to eliminate the wiggle during high speeds, control arms or tie rod ends? and yes i hear loud clunk at the front specifically at the driver side when i ran over bumps. or maybe it is my blown shocks at the rear that needs replacement to eliminate that problem? its kinda scary driving it so kinda want to fix it asap.

 

Just to throw another idea out there, one of the characteristics of failing inner CV joints is straight-line instability. If you're constantly making slight steering corrections, they could also be contributing to the issue. Check 'em out.
