Default What would you do?

Hey guys,

After a few weeks of scanning these forums, I clamped down and picked up a 2001 A4 2.8L with about 122k on it. Got a pretty decent deal on it. I have had it for a week and realized how addictive of a driving experience it is. Car runs pretty well, only red flag about the car is the lack of service records on it. This is where you experts come in. I have scanned the threads, and know about the common problems. My question is what would you guys do? You have this used Audi, runs pretty, but you don't know anything thing about the prior service records. What would you have done to ensure it keep running smoothly? All I have done is changed the oil with the good synthetic stuff as you all have recommended. What else should be done? And how much do you think it'll run me? I just don't know where to start because I want this baby to really purr and not worry me.

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

Kind Regards

I would get access to the service records and then as needed:

--Change tranny fluid
--Get a high mileage tuneup
--Check your sparks/wires
--Flush coolant

Find out when the timing belt was last changed! That would be my number 1 priority.

I agree with Nevalite. Timing belt would be the number one priority.

Welcome to AF and congrats on the car btw.

Agreed - t-belt service is crucial and you're due. Where do you live? There are several of us on here that work on these cars on the side and can save you a lot of money vs going to a shop or dealership. Or you may have some guys around you that can at least offer insight and tips to help you do the job yourself.

Obviously timing belt, but I would have my mechanic check the front end suspension as well; that seems to be a pretty frequent topic around here (CV boots/joints, control arms, strut mounts).

I'd also find out when the battery was last changed... you don't want to try to start your car some morning and have it not turn over.
