You would be much better off finding a car that came from the factory with one. There is much more than just swapping an engine. You have to consider transmission compatibility , ecm , tcm , & the other electronics like abs & traction control & how they tie in with the vehicle.
This is a question asked many a times!

Some people have a lot more free time than others to get involved with Frankenstein projects.

now see i've been searching and didn't see any diy's more or less or parts list. When you say cheap, what are you thinking, found and s4 engine with 47k on the block, and 105 on the head all seals replaced for 1000,

bones is expressing the frustration that many of us have felt from answering this question over and over again. The bottom line is, it will be FAR cheaper and more feasible to have a car with a 2.7t in it if you buy one that came that way (ie, an S4)

The exceptions to this rule are someone who has a lot of fabrication experience, access to a lot of free time and money, and can source a donor car for REALLY cheap. Like unreasonably cheap.

In any case, there are countless threads that cover this topic. Run a quick search here, on Audiworld, VW vortex, and the zine, and you'll find enough reading material on the topic to keep you busy for a long, long time.
