It is a 98 because the 96-97s didn't have tiptronic on the automatics, and 98 which is my year has the 5spd auto tip tronic. 98.5 is when they changed the tail lights on the a4. the engine is a 5v b/c that's what's underneath the hood of my car and all the info i had from the car when i picked it up two months ago.
