Default Why a ebay K04 is off limits.

So im still not considering buying one from everyones opinion of how eBay can't be trusted.
But the thing is if you look at this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KO4-0...ht_1805wt_1165

It has a 6 month warranty, i i purchased it i could bring it to horsepower freaks and they would test if for me...
If its bad then wouldn't the warranty cover it?

i know this may seem stupid, but i am new to cars in general and i like to learn as much as possible about them.

i see your point i guess its so cheap you can buy like 4 of them but the main point is they last for a few weeks to a few months somtimes a year depends if your pounding on your turbo 24/7 like most of us are so pretty much why we say no is the bearing inside the turbo goes to **** and bam no more turbo than your buying another turbo so the rule of thumb

buy nice or pay twice

There was a thread on a different forum about the knock-off K04.

It has received mixed reviews but for the price and if you're doing the work your self, I'd say it's worth to try.

...unless it frags the compressor wheel when it fails and blows metal shards into your engine cylinders...

Back in my honda days, my friend bought a ebay t3/t4, and it was fun on 10lbs, till the wastegate failed, and it managed to peg the boost gauge, which in turn (we assume) wrecked the bearing, causing turbine to housing contact and literally shattering the wheel. This happened over about 5 seconds

Never go ebay unless you like gambling with your pistons

But hey its only $105

Well, they say the biggest problem is the small wastegate (which is actually smaller than the stock K03) that causes it to overboost. I don't think the turbo will fall apart (as they'd get sued) but it just won't last as long as the original Borg Warner.

Honestly, I'm curious when it comes to it. People have said so many different things about it. I also consider the fact that aftemarket ball bearing turbos are so much better than the original ones.
