windshield crack
Started when a friend of mine tried a DiY (trying to put in new wipers) on my A4 and the arm hit the windshield glass. What started as a small crack two months back, grew 400% last one week alone and is all across my windshield now. Now, my auro insurance, has agreed to cover the cost of replacement, as i have comprehensive insurance. I have two questions:
Safelite can do it for 350, but they will not put in a OEM glass. If i can bring in original Audi glass from somewhere, they will install that. Now, is that kinda thing accepted in insurance? the cost of the glass and the labor separately? And is it ok to go with a non-OEM glass? will it make a difference considering Sfelite offers life time guarantee on glass and workmanship?
Two, where do i get OEM glass? Audi of greenwich doesnt have it....

finad a shop that has OEM glass...from what i have read the glass actually effects the way the car rides...
I was quoted over $800 for OEM glass from a local Auto glass installer....
I don't see why the stealership wouldn't be able to order it for you....

im on my 3rd windshield now in the audi! however, i commute about 100 miles a day in it on the freeway, so its bound to happen. I have replaced it with regular glass and never noticed the car riding differently. That's in old cars like classic porches where the windshield actually prevented chassis twist and was a vital part to the handling. However, I highly doubt thats the case in our cars.
i would make double sure with your insurance that they are covering the entire cost, and not just the cost after your deductible (mines $500 on state farms comprehensive). If you do have a deductible then you want to take it to the most expensive place possible.
Otherwise, i got mine done at Safelite (they came to my work actually, took 20 mins) for $210 +tax.

Hey man...I actually work for Safelite, so maybe I can help...OEM glass has a better fit for our cars than any aftermarket brand, but that is about it. You could always call your insurance company and see if they will approve it for you (I doubt it, but it's worth a shot) or call your local shop and see how much of your ded they will waive. If you do end up going with aftermarket make sure you request a PPG glass...thats techincally OEM, but no Audi logo. PM me if you have any more questions.
Hey Skip from Richmond - you may have just replaced mine a couple of weeks ago! Safelite did it and the new one actually fit better than the original. The OEM one had a bit of a gap on the drivers side. The new one seems perfect.
hey guys... i did replace the glass finally, and it is looking pretty good...miss the audi circles in the glass, but the work seems to be fine and the glass also looks great.
thanks to all of you who helped.....
