hell you wanna buy mine, ive made all repairs on mine and the clutch has only got 30-40k on it, but anyways the 12v is a great car by no means is it a racer or anything but just an overall nice car to drive and be driven in (unless your tall and in the backseat) and you can still tear it up in the snow if you get quattro, very reliable engineand drivetrainbut like any car you gonna have some noises you may not like and theres always the possiblilty of small audi gremlins poking up. but overall its an easy car to work on.

just stick with a jetta or a thing liek that... i just got my a4 in dec and now i ahve to do just over 4000$ of work just so it wont keep busting
If your doing over $4000 in repairs your most likely getting ripped off or just retarted. because 4000 grand just in REPAIRS to a b5 is not worth it unless you have a car modded enough to be worth that kind of money. Do the work yourself, the job i did myself and spent $500 in parts on would have been about 2000 in labor from the estimates i got.

....its a sick car i love it to ddeath ( and so do the ladies)..500$ wont do thatmuch in repaires from what i have learned and i looked around to alot of diff shops in my area.. i know this makesno sence but bare with me im at work.
Good luck Get the Audi if you have the bals...and get the 1.8t i know its only a 4 banger but its a bad boy deeep down The op said he didnt have alot of money to spend on repairs, and if he really wanted a more reliable car then a 2.8 would be the way to go. So unless he really wants a "bad boy" then na engines would be the prime choice.

new front control arm kit(or whatever the **** its called ) 1,700
new water pump and timing belt 1,044$
90k Service 950$
New Turbo Kit (since my oldturbo is going to be fucked soon) 1,000+ (i also have a small leak in my exaust)...
so im not retarded and im having it all done at the stealership so thats why reason why its so much.. dont try to put people down over what they say to be true...and the word repair was prolly the wrong choice in words. and once you add tax to that ****... well i think we can all do some math

Its retarded to do it at the stealership. Even if you cant do it yourself an independant shop can do it for alot less. It may take a little shopping around, but these forums are the best place to get that kind of info.

To the OP, if you like the B5s one can be found. like others have said if you're not worried about modding the drivetrain then get a 2.8. I'd keep an eye out for the 30v though. I'm sure there's a nice '99.5 waiting for you to find it.

Seriously 1700 for control arms???? Thats deserving of being branded retarded, also what does the 90k service entail? Oil change, tire rotation, maybe replace plugs, air filter??? Im sure its not *much* more than that. DIY is your friend, but I am sure your parents are paying for everything so you don't really care about bettering yourself and saving $.
