Angry WTH? I guess B5s have no re-sale value.

Ok, I'll admit it. I'm tired of having to buy parts for my car once a month and worried about having to pay for another tow-truck ride home , so I'm looking for something more reliable to commute in. I got something in the mail from a local dealer saying that they are having some special promotion where they will give you full market value for your trade-in. So I stop by there today on my way home from work and they had the nerve to say that the most they'd give me would be $1,500! They went on about some crap about how "these cars" aren't worth much to them since German cars only hold there value up to 100k mi. and then they start to have problems. After all that I've been through with this car and all the money I've thrown at it, this is how much it's worth? My exterior and interior are in very good condition too besides a tear on the driver's seat. This is BS.

Try the Kelley Blue Book website for an approximate value for your car. The present the dealership with what you learned.

A suggestion for a reliable replacement - a B5 30v. I swear to God the 1.8T, for all the potential it has with the afternarket, isn't worth the constant failures and fuckups.

Yea, I sometimes contemplate making a post here for a straight up trade for a v6.

Maybe I will to see if anyone would be interested

EDIT: lol just made a post in classifieds to see if anyone is down for a trade

man if you went in cali id do it.

but i did a **** ton of work to my v6 and tried to sell it. maintenance doesn't really matter. the value of the car matters 3-5 i the general range for a well kept clean b5. But after not being able to sell it i kept it and haven't had a problem in 5 months or so.

There was a post a while back debating if having detailed maintenance records increases the car value or not. I think it does kinda, but it's not like if you pay $1000 bucks for a dealership TB/WP job you can directly add 1000 bucks to the car's value.

Any way you look it, a car is a depreciating investment. For every odometer tick the value goes down. It's sort of crazy and almost stupid to buy a new car, because once you take it off the lot, BAMM value goes down %20.

The dealership where i used to live, offered me 500 for my B5 but this is after they ran a diagnostic on it,to verify my fears that my automatic tranny was gone and needed to be replaced for 4000.00

I said no and got it replaced for 1,500.00 tranny had 70,000 miles on it,its still shifting strong ever since.

I Wonder how much they would offer me now with no check engine lights? Probably even less than they offered me the last time, because it has more mileage than before.

According to KBB, my B5 is worth $6300, and I'm trying to sell it for $6000. Have a potential buyer who drove it last night, and is allegedly coming back tonight with her son. Got my fingers crossed. interestingly, I didn't receive any interest in my car until it snowed last weekend. Since then, I've had two people email me with interest. Quattro ftw!

yea dealer will tell you $1500 but they'll turn it around and list it up for $8k. i saw a 00 s4 with 140K miles on it dealer wanted close to $20k for it? seriously? american car market regarding german cars is goin down the drain..

i went to test drive an 04 r32 (respectable car that holds its value) and i want to say with 80-90k miles a good condition car like that would be worth around 14-15k, taken great care of. now this one was not only cracked all over the place, interior was dirty, leather was very poor and the dealer had the nerve repeating "only 5000 made for U.S" (yea i kno ********, my brilliant yellow a4 was one of 400 or so for U.S) and wanted 19k for the thing. kept praising all these aftermarket parts on it.

lemme get this straight: when i go to trade in, my car will be valued LESS because of aftermarket parts, but they'll turn it around and use those same aftermarket parts to RAISE the price of the car and praise it when for sale?

told him to stop harassing me with emails and phone calls and I'd take it for 12k TOPS, never heard from him again. car is still at the dealer 2 years later with price dropping each month
