hi guys.i have a serious issue with my 2002 a4 1.8t.now these engines are known for having a sludge problem.mY OIL light came on and i replaced the sending unit.it was fine for about 2 months.it came back on and ignored it figuring it was only the sending unit.well stupid me.the engine started making a knocking sound and lot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust.now does this mean the engine is blown?any feedback i would greatly appreciate it.also any good websites to get good engines from if i do need one?thank you

 

White smoke usually means a coolant issue.

This happened with my 83 Volkswagen Scirocco a LONG time ago and yes the engine was blown. Wether or not your engine has suffered the same fate, I don't know. Will your engine start?

 

yes my car starts.just makes loud knocking noise.as a matter of fact i drovve it today to load it on a trailer.i tried to bring it to audi because i had a connection to generate me some paper work i needed for them to cover it under the sludge warranty,but that didnt come through so i brought it to mechanic i always use and he determined that engine is blown.i've been shopping around for another engine,but cheapest i found was $2000 with 79k miles.i really dont wanna put an engine in with those many miles.

 

Hmmmm..... How out of the question is it for you to sell this one and get a new another used but in better shape Audi???
