'02 A4 1.8T - thermostate diagnostic help

I know this is a slightly old thread but anyway. Unless I read this wrong...the part you say you replaced was the temp sensor. But then you gave a link to the thermostat. The problem appears to be the sensor(mine is bad right now, getting new one tomorrow) correct me if i'm wrong. And my dealership is tellin me like 35 dollars for the sensor, oring, and retaining clip. I think they had an extended warranty on those too.

yes, the temp sensor located at the firewall...top back of motor. You need small hands, easy proceedure. I paid $12 at Checker Auto, didn't fix my problem, it might be a bad sensor but I suspect the thermostat...
