04 A4 1.8t CVT Transmission
Hello All.
Car: 2004 Audi A4 1.8t 4cyl FWD CVT Transmission... 92,000 miles.
So I just recently started getting these symptoms:
I am driving.. going about 40-50mph, go to hit the gas to accelerate, and the car does not accelerate all it does is rev the engine up and the RPMs shoot up. First started happening once a day, then 2-3 times a day.
One time it even did it at a stop sign.. I was at a stop sign, put my foot on the gas pedal to go and all the car did was rev the engine and did not move.
All of this started happening about 8-27-2012.. was happening for about 3-4 days so I stopped driving it.
Took it to two mechanics, both say I need a new transmission. Neither want to rebuild it because they say the Audi CVT Transmission is a pain the in the ***.
The one guy wants $5500 ( labor and tranny ).
The Audi dealer wants $7500
Only problem is, not one tranny exists in the USA and has to be ordered from Germany which would take 3-4 weeks to arrive!
I doubt that I can even sell the car for more than 8500$ and the tranny alone is that expensive.. wow.. I was thinking of trading it in, but i'm pretty sure anyone would try to low blow the hell out of me with their offer..
I am hesitant on getting a used tranny because it seems like these cvt tranny's tend to go bad pretty fast, and you can't find one under 60,000 miles.
Has anyone else had these symptoms with their audi cvt tranny? What did yall do to fix it? How much was it?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated...
