Default 1.8T AWT with EBC 5psi no boost, limp mode? weird noise too...

Installed my EBC maybe two weeks ago, been working pretty well until now.

I noticed the car wasn't boosting as much a couple days ago, checked everything over and no pipes loose or disconnected.

Long story short; nothing has changed physically, exactly as it has been last two weeks yet my EBC is having absolutely no impact on proceedings.

Boost seems to be limited to 5psi peak and holds around 4.5 full throttle.

No driveability problems normally associated with 'limp mode'.

The ONLY thing I could find out of place is a very high pitched whining noise for maybe 20 or so seconds after start (hot or cold) coming from one of the two vacuum related parts mounted to the underside of the intake manifold (Nxxx + Nxxx)

To me it seems I am relegated to wastegate pressure.

I have tested the wiring to the EBC solenoid and it's getting 12.6V

I suppose the question(s) is/are....lol

Is that noise a clogged/failed Nxxx?
I'm sure I've never heard it before so I assume it's not supposed to make that noise.

Also, is it even possible for the ECU to 'limp' and reduce boost?
Considering the EBC is independant of the ECU I can't see how it could control the boost levels.

The N75 is connected but I have looped the in/out ports and left it attached to the TIP.

My view is that the EBC solenoid has given up the ghost ALREADY or I have a massive leak that is causing me to only run wastegate pressure, can anyone riff on that idea to guesstimate if it could be a culprit?

My head is cheese now, swiss stuff.

ECU is stock, only mod is the BCU+ EBC.

No codes stored but did get Secondary air incorrect flow P0411 yesterday, it takes about a week then it throws it again, this hasn't affected boost levels before now and tbh has been on for a while, pretty sure the SAI pump is knackered.

Cleared code and no difference, currently no CEL. Lost boost two days before code re-appeared.

Any other questions please ask, feel free to riff away with ideas and stuff, I'm all out of them.

5psi
EBC settings doing nothing
Need to get specs to test the EBC solenoid.

c'mon guys

Default yeah, never mind.

I'll answer my own questions as usual lol

Tried MBC in place of EBC solenoid.
Hits and holds steady at 13+ psi no problem = yee haw!

EBC solenoid definitely to blame. That's value for money

I know these cars can safely fuel all the way up to 14.9 before they sh*t it.
edit: to clarify I asked in the A4 forum but it's an A6 C5 with AWT engine 150bhp K03 Euro spec.

Other 1.8T's may not be able to safely fuel that pressure with standard map. Olderthan late 2001 or US spec I believe.

New vacuum lines on the way
will clear out all solenoid valves and the DV with 3-in-1 oil prior to changing the vacuum hoses.
Fix minor exhaust leak and call it a day.

Picks up like a champ from 2nd to 3rd at 12psi.

Never killed my SAAB 9000 with this actual MBC, although that was only 10psi.

I only rip it once in a while so it's spot on.

No limp mode.
No fuel cut at 13.8psi peak.

Still get the BCU+ as a boost gauge and warn feature still useful as it beeps and changes from green display to red display if boost exceeds set level.

Perfectly acceptable. Borderline on turbo/engine longevity but at 13 years old and 140k and value of about £500.......

Sorry, excuse me...

jutjutwroooooooom.........rrrrruuuuuummmmmmmWAAAAA Aaaaaaaaaaa.....WWAAAAAAAAAAAaaaa

FFFSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

xD
should have saved myself 100 sheets and just bought a badass gauge.

Lesson 1 - avoid cheap ebay EBC's unless they're good used ones.

BCU+ ?

don't get me wrong, great gauge and features.....but my verdict is BCU-

two weeks.......TWO WEEKS.

At £70 for a solenoid that's an expensive sport that I'm not participating in.

Dear diary, my car is smart, too smart.

Just as well I suppose.
Never believe what you read on t'internet.

This car only likes normal boost levels.

It's okay for a while but surely enough it goes limp on me.

it's perfectly driveable so I suppose it's a good sign.

After all it's been through I think a nice shiny new n75 is necessary.

Note to anyone bored enough to read this: don't bother; it's fun for 5 minutes but ultimately it's wiser to be patient and get a remap.

Maybe someday for my ol' girl but for now it's a restoration assignment - restore harmony.

So no use for MBC or EBC on a stock car, just pointless gadgets unless used to compliment a remap.

When they work they do the biz but it's .....

yeah.
