Default 1.8T Engine

I'm in the market to purchase 2004/2005 A4 1.8T. Recently I spoke with a friend who is best friends with a dealership that deals mostly Audis and BMWs. I told him what I was looking for and he then attempted to stray me away from the 1.8T and said that they are prone to having engine problems. He said that my better bet would to be going for the 3.0 Model.

Is there any truth in this?

Actually the 3.0 is worse, they have plenty of problems.

They do, but on the long run the problems seem to equal out. The only thing you get is coolant leak, Cat's, coil packs, but you get this faults consistently.
