My friend owns a 2002 A4 3.0 w/ 69K. Motor started running rough. Brought it to a dealer in CT, they say it is excessive cam wear (lobes worn) and the cam and head need to be replaced (passenger side).

An Audi tech I know says he has heard about this on the 4 cyl. turbos, but not the 3.0 six. Any help or further questions I should ask the current shop where it is at?

 

thats strange, i know 3.0s arent the best but that sounds a little odd. does your friend keep up on his oil changes and regular maintenence? where did he bring it to get looked at? sounds like a valenti audi diagnosis hehehe.

thats where i bought my car and almost got a job there until i talked to someone that worked there. i heard the shop lighting is horrible and they dont have all of the necessary speciality tools. whenever i bring my car there i listen to them talk to customers and all i hear them do is make some B.S. story that the customer can relate to and thats it. as a tech. myself, i couldnt believe what i heard them tell customers. if my car wasent under a warrenty still i wouldnt be there because i could do all the work myself. id even look at your friends car for you, but if you want to bring it to a dealer, try the porche/audi dealer on rt 5 in wallingford, much better rep.
