Default 2003 a4 1.8t quattro - advice needed!

I've been looking at getting a 03 a4 quattro at one of the dealerships here but I'm wary. It's got 180k, but otherwise it looks great, no damage looks well taken care of. It's also the 5 spd which is what I wanted. I need to see a carfax before I even think about getting it but I need to know if I should just leave it be because of the mileage or if it's possibly worth it. I can only assume the timing belt has been replaced, and that basic maintainence was done.

It's a great price and comes with an extra set of tires which is tempting. I'm just not familiar enough with Audis to know if its worth messing with. I have been doing a ton of research and I am mechanically inclinded enough to do my own maintainence to a certain extent. I just need the advice of someone who's had one or knows more than I. Any info helps

at 180k you should be getting a phenomenal price and you have to take it to a known independant shop that works on Audis to have it inspected. Maintenance paperwork would be mandatory as it could be on its third or 4th timing belt. Suspension is likely shot with that kind of mileage as well so that needs to be looked at.

Take a look at the READ THIS FIRST stickies to get some idea of what you are getting in to with the 1.8T. I was in your same position a year ago wanting to get into the Audi line with a 1.8T that I could eventually play with. Just getting it caught up on maintenance has chewed up the budget I had planned to use to 'play' with it and I still don't have everything caught up yet.

Dont get me wrong, I totally love my Audi. The quattro is great in the snow especially with some good snow tires.

Good luck!

Well they want $7500 for it but there are no maintenance records and they won't do a carfax or anything like that until I commit to buying it so honestly I probably will pass for now. I haven't had a chance to test drive because we've been getting slammed with snow lately and my little lowered Honda that I'm rocking right now isn't exactly happy in it haha. I'll see if they're ok with me taking it to a shop that will do a full check for me. Its a gorgeous car and the interior is perfect, the leather looks like it's got 50k on it.

This is the craigslist ad they have for it::

don't buy it man, take your time, if possible buy one from a private owner to avoid dealer fees and higher prices.
the 180k miles are way too much, unless it was a diesel I would not do it.
do not rush, take your time and a great deal will come.

Lol that FAR from a phenomenal price. At that mileage, with no service records, I wouldn't pay $4000 for it.

way out of whack for 180k and no records or unwillingness to do a carfax. theres a ton of 1.8t b6s out there, you can find one for half the mileage (or less) for nearly the same price

Yeah they sold it to some old couple from out of town which I'm fine with. I'll find a much better one that's not crazy expensive and doesn't have ridiculous miles on it. Just gotta be patient I guess
