2003 A4, CVT Problems
On July 22, 2010, a purchased a beautiful 2003 A4, 3.0L, FWD, MultiTronic CVT automatic transmission, with only 55,000 miles. The car drives great most of the time, but intermittingly it hesitates, jerks and/or judders when accelerating. Sometimes it is worse than other times. Otherwise, the car is great.
So, I took it to the local Audi dealer to get the transmission serviced. They wanted to check it out before changing the fluid. The first day, I dropped it off that morning and left it there for the day. At the end of the day the service advisor told me that they checked it but did not find any problems. I told him I was sure it had problems and asked them to look at it again. The second day they told me they found internal problems, it needs replacing, and I would have to find someone else to fix it because they don't fix CVTs there. They would not even change the transmission fluid. Of course, I was confused and dismayed, this was the Audi dealer's service dept and they won't touch it. I asked if they could refer me to someone local and they couldn't. They told me to "check around."
I called around to a couple of transmission place with no success. The guy at Mr. Transmission told me that Audi does not release sufficient information or parts on the CVT, so they can't rebuild them. I have finally found a mechanic, actually met him at the dealership parts store, he says he would be willing to flush the transmission for me. I asked if he had experience with the CVT and he didn't give a straight answer, says he been working on European transmissions for 20 years and he's sure he can service it. He says it is not uncommon for the dealership to replace transmissions that can be fixed with proper servicing. At this point, I have no choice but to trust the guy.
Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

There is a sticky post here which https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=148065
it states that the problem may not be with the ECU but something relatively minor.
I have a fault, 18201-P1793
I have been getting conflicting advice on this.
Some are being dramatic and saying change the ECU some are saying its a sensor issue or a gearbox oil change.
DO you have a VAG COM cable? (if not good to invest in one, its only like $40 or less over ebay) I paid $300 to have the car diagnosed for 1 hour.
THe cable i bought i saw the same error and description of the error with the vag com in less then 3 mins.
Does the car show any errors?
