2005 A4 1.8T TCM Issue...
So for the past few months my car has been intermittently slipping gears. It goes into S on the display, and as I try to get it back into drive my entire drive display starts flashing. I no longer try to get it back into drive when this occurs, I just let it do it's thing. It use to do this only a couple times a week, but now it's doing it a couple times every time I drive the car.
I had it looked at today and they told me it was $1,750 to replace the Transmission Control Module. I have done some searching online and I have seen others pay anywhere from $1,700 to $4,000 to have this done, so I am pretty sure I am not getting ripped off that bad. I can't get the repair done until next weekend because of work, and also the part is on order. I've already been driving he car for a couple months with this problem, but I am wondering if this could have done permanent damage to the transmission.
Has anyone else with this model had similar issues?

Yes the TCM is quite expensive and it does the things you're talking about, if you continue to drive with a bad TCM you could cause transmission breakdown (on CVTs) or clutch pack burn. Since you're doing this try not to be harsh on the car until the new TCM is installed.
Has anyone tried a rebuilt TCM ? I'm considering doing it myself and sending it in to rock auto. I'm not even sure this is the right part , this link is for a V6 engine, but if they rebuild the one for the v6, i don't see why they cant rebuid the 1.8 T .
