Default 3.0 V6 5 speed manual high rpm @ 60mph

Hi all, I've just brought an 03 plate 3.0 V6 5 speed cabriolet and I'm noticing in 5th the engine is revving at 2500-2600rpm at 60 mph. This seems a little high to me given the large engine and high top speed. Any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance
George

That sounds about right on that vehicle with a 5-speed, but I'd have to look at the specs...I'm going to guess your redline is around 6300-6500rpms correct?

Thanks for the reply, Yeah Redline is Around 6500rpm. The Specs say the car can do 150MPH I don't see how the car will get from 60MPH doing 2700RPM to 150MPH will only 3700RPM left to use in 5th gear. Not that I ever plan to drive that fast, But I do cruise up and down the motorway regularly and don't want the engine spinning faster than necessary. I understand they also did a 6-speed model of this car, maybe that would suit me better.

My B6 has a six speed manual and I love it. However, when I first got my six speed, I kept forgetting to put it in 6th because I was so used to driving 5 speeds for 30 years.....but they are nice...

I drive a 6-speed Manual Diesel Honda at the moment, so the lack of a 6th Gear in the A4 is annoying me, I wish I had known they made a 6-speed aswell. I would have held out for the better gearbox model.

But, the gear ratio of the 5 speed will give it more acceleration at higher speeds...I still like my 5 speeds in my B5s...I love flooring it and taking off like a bat out of hell....not that I can't make my 3.0 do that, but as said, grew up with 3,4, and 5 speed manuals....

I know it goes like stink when I plant my size 10s into the carpet, but for cruising comfort I would have preferred a six speed. Never mind i'm sure it will be fine. thanks for your advice.
