Default 50k and 60k service????

i have about 56k miles on my 03 audi a4 1.8t quattro. audi said that there is a 50k service and a 60k. the 50k costs about 230 while the 60k service is 420. i heard they are quite similar and all that is different replacing the filter for the air from the engine to the cabin or inside the car. is this true? i was told from audi that the 50k is basically a oil change which i had done at jiffy lube for a wopping 90 bucks! what should i do about the service.... this is not including the timing belt as i think i have a little ways to go before that needs to be done, around 70k i figured

The 60k also lubricates the sunroof rails, adjust headlights, looks at your tranny fluid, and inspects a ton of stuff.. along with the oil change and filters...

so even tho their are two services so close apart id be fine just doing the 60k because that seems like much more work than the 50k

If yours is like many, it has no dipstick for the tranny and is concidered 'lifetime'.. which is to say, 80-100k miles.

I seem to remember seeing something about the Tiptronic transmission in my 98 A8 that showed a "plug" on the side of the transmission, which could be used by a mechanic to check the level of the fluid. There was also a drain plug nearby.

That link is for VW trannys, but the same applies. There is some good information on that page, and a simple google search should provide a lot more.

Regardless of that, the recommendation from the tech on that page suggests changing the fluid every 30K miles to maximize the service life of the Tiptronic.

Thats fine... I always believed in 60k miles maximum, with a personal preference of 24 months or 30k miles for fluid, with a filter change every other time, or 60k.
