Default 7 Quarts??!

hey guys, just did my first oil change and the mechanic just poured in 7 qts of synthetic oil! i thought he was overfilling but i just checked after a good drive and the dipstick reads that it's topped off, not overfilled. i checked on a level surface, with the engine warmed, but turned off. am i missing something here or do these cars take in this amount of oil? thanks for your help.

btw its for a 2004 Audi A4 3.0 Cabriolet FWD

I think the manual said like 6.4 or 6.6 or something so that's only an extra 0.4-0.6 quarts. The amount the manual says probably brings you to the middle of the acceptable area on the dipstick, they probably designed it so that a full 7 quarts brings it to the top of the acceptable area.

That is right for the 3.0, just check it all the time I usually use 7 quarts, a little less (6.8) but is nothing to worry about. I was surprised the first time too. Is expensive too! I use Mobil one full synthetic Euro formula 0W40, about 6 bucks a quart.

The 2.7T takes 7.3 quarts when the filter is changed (which it always should be) and the 3.0 takes 6.6 per the owner's manual.
