Age on the belt doesn't really have an effect too much, as long as your changing it around the 80k mark you should be ok. As for the price, i already stated such, shop around..........a lot.

In the 3.0 V6, is the timing belt somewhere u can see? or is it behind the engine? If u can get a visual- If the belt looks in good shape, should it still be replaced?

Not to hi-jack the thread...

My 3.0 will cost 3k+ for the timing belt... fine. I heard cats can go on these engines as well... fine.

Is there anything else? Will the Quattro kick it too? Transmission?I really am considering selling the car at this point and getting a 2.0T, well maybe.

No you can't see the belt un-less you remove the timing belt covers, replace it no matter what if your around the 80k mark.

Timing belt jobs and cats are my only pet peeves about the 3.0L engine........well, that and it sounds horrible when you first start em.

people people dont let auditech79 get you all excited now, he absolutely H-A-T-E-S HATES the 3.0 engine. I called a reputable VW and Audi indy shop here in NYC, brooklyn to be exact, and was quoted around $1100, and thats here in NYC! the shop i believe only deals with VW and Audi's so they would now, they broke down the cost to me bit by bit, through email this was.

hey thanks bronxblaza117.. I did the same thing and called a very reputable VW Audi dealer in Indiana. Vordermen Auto Werks to be exact, and their head tech is a German native who came here for the specific reason to work on those vehicles. I got quoted $1200 for timing belt also.
