A4 3.0 Timing Belt help

My A4 is at 102,500 miles. It is still one of the cleanest cars on the road, and runs like a charm, but want to keep that maintance up to the best i can. I bought it used, and cant tell if the timing belt was changed before i bought it or not. I took the covers off to check out the timing belt, and it looks just fine. No rips, marks, white lines where the pullys hit, or nothin. Looks like it possibily could have been changed but not sure when. It lookslike its in good shape.what should i do? how can i find out? the car came from ohio, and i live in Indiana. i dont wanna do a $1,200-$3,000 job if its not necessary!

people people dont let auditech79 get you all excited now, he absolutely H-A-T-E-S HATES the 3.0 engine. I called a reputable VW and Audi indy shop here in NYC, brooklyn to be exact, and was quoted around $1100, and thats here in NYC! the shop i believe only deals with VW and Audi's so they would now, they broke down the cost to me bit by bit, through email this was.

I just called Canada West Coast's NO.1 reputable Audi dealershop -> Audi Of Richmond Canada

The timing belt service will also replace tensioner, water pump etc. for AVK 3.0L engine
I was quoted $1500 CAD. I also confirmed with him that if this is the FINAL price. He said yes.

someone will get to it lol no need to post the same thing twice... my 03 only has 44k on it so i am good to go for another 4 years or so, and it is the 3.0 hopefully by then i will have done enough research and have the proper tools to do the job myself!!... good luck, and ive heard odd things about the cats going bad in these things too... and they can get pretty pricey as well, but audi gives you an 8 year emissions warranty so... you should be okay with that untill 2010-2011, idk if carfax would help out... look it up to see if it says anything about service or what ever... good luck man

I have 97k miles on my Audi A4 3.0 Quattro. I have owned it since dayone and I need to do the timing belt (Audi told me to startchecking the belt at 80k, replace for sure by 100k).
I have checked a local shop (Austin, TX) that does ONLY VW and Audi vehicles. He has replaced 3.0 timing belts before and I was quoted the following:
Timing belt replacement+ water pump + all seals = $1494
Spark plugs = $306 (too much for what looks like an easy job IMO)
Alignment = $190

I am waiting on a dealer quote as I write this message but I will let you all know...

wait, you mean your 3.0L engine already has 100K miles and timing belt still alive?


I got my spark plugs changed last month on my AVK 3.0 engine.
=> NGK Laser Platinum Plugs.
Total including tax and labour only $250 USD.
just to let you know my deal.

Drive feels much better and smoother after replacement of plugs.

Should've also changed 6 coil packs at the same time, too.
Otherwise you'll probably get some cylinders misfired sooner or later.

I have a 2003 A4 3.0 with 70K, so I'm starting to consider changing my belt.

I am also coming up on the 80,000 mark and will be looking to have the timing belt replaced. $398.00 for that kits sounds like a good deal. The thermostat is another $43. Plus you can rent a tool kit to replace it. I couldn't find a price to rent the tools.

I am sure replacing the timing belt has gone down a bit in price as these posts are almost a year old. I was reading through these and almost hard a heart attack. I can do $1200 to $1500 if I take it to a shop, but $2500 to $3000 is a little ridiculous if you ask me.

However, I did just spend $1100 on a power steering pump replacement at the dealership. $490 for the pump, another $496 for the service charges, and a few other odds and ends... fluid, hoses, etc... I got a free loaner car though.

Default T belt

I will throw in my 2 pennys on this since I have had the T belt replaced

Rather than just throwing out numbers. I attached a copy of the bill. A4 3.0 Timing Belt help-scan0001.jpg

FYI, I supplyed the timing belt kit from ECS and had H&R coilovers installed.
