Unhappy A4 Avant 1.8t engine turn-over trouble...

Hey guys,

I own a 2005 B6 A4 Avant 1.8t and am having troubles with the engine turning over. A couple of months ago my car started taking a good 10-15 seconds to turnover when holding down the brake pedal and key turned. This problem only occurs when I have not driven my car for around 2-5 hours. Any time before and after that the engine turns over as it should.... I took the car to a shop and had a full test run of the battery, alternator, cables, and starter. The results showed there was nothing wrong, but they guessed there was a faulty section of the starter I had; consequently, I replaced the starter on my car (regrettably) and it continued to have the problem. The only after market part I have put on my Audi so far is an aFe stage II CAI.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Thanks.

My car cranks, and will start but only after cranking for 10-15 seconds when I haven't used it for 2-5 hours...

Has it died? Any CELs? Could be fuel, could be spark, could be engine speed sensor...

is your coolant temperature sensor.

If you don't want to replace it every month, they tend to go bad all the time, do this: open the key without cranking it for 2 to 5 seconds depending how cold it is, then close it, then crank it. It should work, if it doesn't replace the temperature sensor.

have the same problem on my 02 a4 1.8t as well. i know for a fact it's not the battery just got a new one put in when i bought the car a month ago. but the car is turning over but just one turn on...it's annoying, takes like 5-10 seconds before the car actually starts.

ive had this problem a couple of times. the first time the dealer said it was a dirty throttle body and intake manifold. the second time it was the engine speed sensor. the engine speed sensor might give you a cel if its bad enough, but it does wear out slowly. mine went out at around 110k, and theyre pretty common.
