Default A4 B6 3.0L Quattro Excessive Oil Consumption?

Got my oil changed in January with about 115,800 miles on the car. Just got the "oil min." light on my dash and just hit 118,000. To be safe I took it to a shop to make sure I had no leaks or anything weird going on, and the dipstick read no oil. They said I was about a quart and a half low, and I was burning up more oil than I should be for some reason. There are no major leaks, and I never have any smoke from the tailpipes. Just wondering if this is normal for 2,200 miles or is something weird going on I should look at? I live in mostly flat areas, no big hills or anything, and in Oregon the average temperature is probably in the 50's so I don't really do any heavy load driving or anything. Any help is appreciated.

I am still having this happen again, every month or so I am getting the low oil light on and have to put a quart and a half in to fill it back up. There is no major leak anywhere, I don't have a puddle of oil where I park or anything. I got a quote before to get my valve cover gaskets replaced, could this be the issue causing me to lose that much oil in that short of time? Any help is appreciated, just hate to keep filling it back up every month when I shouldn't be. Also, don't want to pay to have this and that fixed every month when they might not be the solution. Thanks
