Hi,

My 2008 Audi A5 2.0 litre is using excessive amounts of Oil. Approximately 1 litre every month.

I am a steady driver and rarely hit the turbo.

Does any one have any ideas on how to improve this?

The car has done 70,000 in total.

Take a look inside the charge pipe leading from the turbo to the intercooler. You could have shaft seal wear that's allowing oil to escape into the piping. A little oil in there is expected by the time a car has the miles yours has, but more than a couple teaspoons and I would start to think the seals are going bad on the CHRA of the turbo.

 

How is this possible? The turbo kicks in around 1900 RPM. If I'm not mistaken, unless you travel below 10km/h all the time, you're always using the turbo.

When I first got my pre-owned A5 it went through a litre of oil in about 8000 KM. The car was bought from a dealer so I can only assume the dealer used the usual Castrol oil variety. I didn't get the low oil level warning but I monitored the digital oil level readout and it was consistent in decrementing every ~1000 KM until it was empty. I did a full oil change and I used Motul 8100 x-cess 5w40. So far after 3300 KM, I'm still reading full on the digital readout. Fingers crossed ....
