B6 1.8t quattro 6spd: Clutch Slippage
Hi everyone,
Today, after coming off the highway, I down shifted from 4th gear to 3rd gear at around 40mph and my clutch pedal went to the floor and wouldn't come back up until I pulled it up with my foot. Then it wouldn't go into gear until i pumped the clutch pedal. Now I notice I have alot more clutch slippage with the clutch pedal half engaged, almost as if it grabbing especially in reverse. Also if i pump the clutch pedal the slippage is minimum. Just need to know if anyone else has experienced this and how serious of a problem it is?
Any kind of info will be greatly appreciated, thanks

I would check my clutch fluid level.
Found out from the dealer that the clutch is chattering, so i need a new clutch. I been shopping around for a new aftermarket clutch that will have good wear yet have a great clamping force.I was hoping to know if anyone on here is using Spec 3+ clutches w/ aluminium flywheel and if they are any good?
thanks

Spec clutch kits tend to be hit or miss, so you end up taking a big chance hoping that it works correctly. Because if it doesn't the transmission needs to be pulled again and SPEC will not cover the cost of that. You are better off buying a South Bend or Clutch Masters. If you only drive the car on the street a South Bend clutch with their 17 lbs or 20 lbs billet steel would be your best option. The Clutch Masters clutch kits above stage 1 are a bit more aggressive but once the break-in period is over people seem to really like the clutch setups.
Having a hard time figuring out if your clutch is slipping or not fully releasing since you say it slips but yet also say its feels as if the grabbing especially in reverse. If you have to pump the pedal the slave cylinder is not pushing the clutch in all the way to release the disk. Needing to pump the pedal to make the clutch work right usually means there is air in the line and could mean that you have a leak, most likely at the slave.

Well I finally replaced my clutch with a New Luk flywheel and a South Bend OFE stage 3. The old clutch was basically done... I was told by the tech who worked on the car that there was no more material left on the face of the clutch.
thanks, I greatly appreciate the help in the info...

Well after two years and 20,000 miles later, it seems my clutch went again. Somehow the clutch prematurely wore out. It sounds like the material between my clutch and pressure plate went and I'm getting a high pitch sqeal when I push on the clutch pedal.
Just want to know what would cause this to happen?
thanks

Did it go on a new flywheel or did you have the flywheel resurfaced?
Just doesn't sound normal for a SB OFE to wear out in 20k miles. The material can wear quicker if it is put on a worn flywheel, can also wear quicker if the clutch is slipping often.
Is your clutch slipping at all and has the pedal engagement point moved up higher on the pedal?

Even with the squealing noise the clutch acts normal, which leads me to believe it material between the clutch plate and the pressure plate is worn out.
Also I didn't feel any slippage... I'm just wonder is there specs as far as the throw out bearing to the pressure plate? since it's not OEM does that have to be adjusted?
