hey new to the site here. looking to upgrade to a b6 audi a4 2.5tdi quattro as have new kid and pram just about crams into back of my rover. so looking a bigger car, with bit of power and needing 4x4 for winter coming in. been lookin for the 1.9 quattro but they are a bit like hens teeth so settled to go for the bigger engine. ive been reading up abit on them but just looking for abit of advice before i start viewing some in next few weeks. from uk so dunno if their any different else where.

ive read thats they have a bit of trouble with the cams. is it right in saying this is for the earlier models and was updated in the 2003> models? is the solid cams a textured surface and the hollow a smooth finish? and how do you tell the difference? is it possile to view them from the oil cap?

also read audi's have galvanised bodies so any sign of rust is more than likely a bad repair job?

and finally how do ya tell the difference between the 160 and 180bhp models?

any other advise on what to look out for would be very helpful too. but was just lookin to check these few things so i no what im talkin about when goin to view some.
