B6 - 2002 Audi A4 - 1.8T - Another Overheating Issue. Please Help.
Once again here i am. So far you guys have helped me fix 5/5 things through your posts on other threads and replies on mine. Lets go for 6.
2002 Audi A4 - 1.8T - 67,000 Miles - 5 Speed
So heres my problem.....
I cycled out to a buddies rather far away and had my wife drive my car to come get me. She got there with no issue at all and everything was driving normal. When we were going to leave roughly an hour later we noticed a large puddle that appeared to leak from the back of my motor around the firewall. It then began to overheat periodically on the way home. After a much longer drive than i would have liked, I got it home and began to diagnose.
I found a leak at the coolant flange that had loosened somehow causing a steady drip of coolant. Tightened it back up, no more leaks, unfortunately i cant say the same about the overheating issue. So before i begin freaking out about the possibilities, i wanted to give you guys the facts and let you go to town. So:
-wont overheat at idle
-No coolant leaks
-Didnt overheat when car is driving
-When coming to a stop at lights. The heat would rise to about the third hash mark (where the red coolant panic light turns on.)
-No heat when at idle. Just blows cool air.
Let me know any other information you guys need or how to diagnose things. Ill go right outside and find out for ya. Thank you in advance for your help.
Thanks,
Sam.

I had the same issues you had, and it turned out it was a combo of the coolant flange and bad water pump. My recommendation is that you have it looked at by a trustworthy shop. At that mileage, it's probably due for service anyway. Replace the coolant flange and do the tbelt, water pump, tensior, and tstat.

This could be a few things; tstat went, faulty waterpump, now the system needs burped from having air in the system, fans not working. Take your time diagnosing everything, so you're not throwing money at it.

Dont know if those help diagnose but still looking for a solution.
