I bought a B6 about 6 months ago, and the brakes did not squeak at all. While it was under warranty, the front brakes needed replaced. I had this done, and a matter of days after they were replaced, I began to notice some squeaking, specifically from the front passenger side brake. I am not sure but the front driver side may also be squeaking. I read up about what might be the cause and it looks like the new pads may not have been "bedded" correctly. Any ideas about what I could try to eliminate the squeaking?

 

did u replace jsut the pads or both the pads and rotors

I got rembo rotors + Hawk pads and they squeek sometimes too.

 

Theyreplaced the pads. I am assuming they used stock pads since they were replaced by an Audi dealership, while the car was under warranty. I didnt replace the rotors, but they look ok. I am assuming everyone is going to tell me to replace the rotors, I just thought Id see if anyone had any other tips. Thanks.

 

Break squeal is an annoying problem. There is generally a lot of voodoo talk about bedding them correctly. If it is only one side I would think they did the install incorrectly (missing grease or shim perhaps). I would probably take it back and complain even though it is out of warranty, they did the work and breaks are a safety issue they don't want to be responsible for.

Barring that there is one thing I would try. A high speed steady firm break to stop. This will heat up the pads and help them seat. If this works and then it starts squeaking again in a few days then the pads are too hard. Soft breakingcan cause hard pads to glaze and squeal. I put expensive new pads on a Miata I have and I tried everything possible to get them to stop squeaking. Finally I pulled them out and put in some new cheap pads and they are perfectly quiet.

Resurfacingrotors will help pads seat and will solve pulsing problems if they are at all warped, but I do my own breaks and don'tdomine.
