Burning oil, Bottom or turbo?
So my 2002 1.8t has been good, until I went to move. I started to lose power, and anytime I hit the gas pedal I got a weird whining noise, but if the car want under load it would still keep speed. Did a quick once over, but couldn't get the noise while at a stop, and sae no visible leaks. About 50 miles later, the noise stopped, but I started blowing a lot of smoke. Towed it the rest of the way. Car still starts but burns oil bad, about a quart a minute. Pressure check with engine cold, since I don't want to warm it up and cause more damage. All cylinders were between 90 -120 psi. Poured 1 ounce of oil in each cylinder, redid pressure test, all are between 220-225. So I know it's not the top end. Took off tbi and no oil covering intake lines. Thinking either turbo (exhaust side) malfunctioned, or I blew some rings. Car only has 128k, I bought at 96k from a good 1st owner. Is there another test I could do to determine cause of problem before tearing heavily into the motor?
