Default Cam tensioner gasket.

Is it hard to change?
I searched it... found nothing...

Maybe someone could point me in the right direction.
Give me a brief walk through... I pulled my valve cover off... seems kinda hard but im willing to take a chance.

Also... motor mounts... are they hard to DIY?

You just undo the 3 torx bolts and slide the gasket and half moon in and out and button it up. Not all that hard.

Cincy seems to underestimate how difficult some things are to do, if you can't get the new gasket in right away take your time with it and it will fall into place. Its a tight fit.

both my VCG and CTG are leaking. i was going to DIY but it was my understanding you had to remove the camshaft to put it in... if not i might try it myself.

BTW, dealer quoted me $800 for both[sm=lame.gif]

I've only replaced the gasket with a special tool that holds down the tensioner. So tell me how it goes without it?

the special tool that compresses the tensioner.... comes with a new tensioner.... usually if your replacing the gasket you are replacing the tensioner. if not... those tools are not hard to come by on here. only 20 or 30 bucks will get you one easy.

when we did mine... we pulled out the cams out...along with the tensioner and used some blue to get that baby in... with the new tensioner of course

I took it to the dealer... they quoted me 900 for parts and labor... I bought the part for 10 bucks.

They said the tensioner was changed about 2 months before I got my car.
I dont know why the seal is leaking already.
Where can I get one of those tools?
What does it look like?

Is there anything I should be careful with while doing such procedure?

Nate, it REALLY isnt that hard. My brother and I were following some over written how to on passatworld and then he found a better post that had no pics and told how to just remove the gasket by just pulling the 3 torx bolts.

We got the tool to remove the cam and all that, didnt even need it in the end. Wasted about 30-45mins messing with the cam and marking the chain tensioner. [&o]

In the end it took up about 10mins just undoing the 3 bolts and slide the 2 gaskets in and closed it back up. Should be able to do both gaskets in about an hour tops.
