Default Can you use a 1.8T from VW for the Audi A4 B6?

I found a place that has some used 1.8T's for VW's, various engine codes.
I am wondering if I buy an Avant B6 with a blown engine or if my engine eventually blows for some reason --can you use a 1.8T longblock to replace the Audi 1.8T?
Thanks.

*Most* of the VW 1.8Ts are set up for transverse mounting, so they'd probably be difficult to use, but if you could find one from a Passat, it *should* be just about the same as the A4.

I need to replace my Audi B5 1.8T (1998) motor since it has 190k and a blown head gasket and the cost of having someone fix it is more than the cost of a longblock. So I was planning on doing the work myself and buying a rebuilt longblock and then building a new relatively new motor. Anyone with feedback or DIY's of people who have done this would be greatly appreciated. Also, what year motors would work in my after 98?

Thanks, Bryan
