Can't open glovebox
I've finally fallen victim to the glovebox problem most B6'rs are having. However, my glovebox won't open. It's unlocked and I can tell that the hinge is not releasing on the passenger side. I've seen other posts that the cost to repair could run up to $400. Are there any tricks to getting it open?
If you can reach the actuator on the hinge, i would just use some dikes and cut it off. If you try to pull down the door you can break more than the actuator assembly. The repair is usually a new actuator and a new door on the glove box, you just need to change the lock over to the new door.
NOTE: WHEN REMOVING THE LOCK FROM THE OLD DOOR MAKE SURE THE KEY IS INSERTED OR THE TUBMLERS WILL FALL OUT!
