Default Common A4 Ignition Coil Failure?

So I was reading here:
http://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/157701.phtml

About the common ignition coil failure on the 2002 1.8T Audi A4's as #2 just failed on me yersterday. I had no clue that this was a common and widespread issue!

I was driving to work yesterday and and my car all of a sudden started misfiring. I tested cylinder coil #2 and sure enough it has stopped firing. Put cylinder coil #1 in there to make sure it was not the wire and it was not. Audi is going to lose face and its reputation if they do not address this issue. I will be ordering 4 here to have spares.

Anyone here having or have had this issue with their A4 etc?

My main question is: Does anyone know if the 2001 A4 coils would worrk on a 2002? They look identical in every way. Keep me informed if anyone knows please oh please. Cheers!

I keep the 3 good ones in the trunk just in case.

You sure? The engines are not massively different between those two. Sure the chassis is butI cannot tell the coils apart looks wise. They are the same size, length, plug, etc. Thanks mate

i know the 01 to 02 is a completely different car. notice you are in the b6 forum..... the 2001s are in the b5. its a completely differernt patform for the vehicle. i know the 2000s and newer have different emmisions things in the car, and different sensors.

and b5s start out at 150 something hp
an b6's 170.

this leads me to beleive that the motors are a "little " different......
mayyyybeee it would work. but i wouldnt do it.[sm=badidea.gif]

Wait... the 96-01 1.8T's have bolt in ignition coils (like in my 99Passat 1.8T)and not push in. So the ones I was going to buy have been improperly listed as 2001's. They have to be 2002's as they are the push in only, not the allen bolt type.

I'ze will. I contacted Audi and asked the part number and the part number matches my current ones I have now as well as the ones I was thinking on buying so they were just listed as 2001's and no '02's by mistake.

Audi part #06B905115L 12496ESM
