Default common problems

What were the common problems with the B6 ers (2002 auto cvt trans 1.8t 83,000 mi) my dad was looking into getting one as a daily driver.

For the love of god run from that car.
The first year the CVT came out is the kiss of death, there are 7 TSB repairs alone for that trans, all of them are major. Changing the fluid every 40k at $300 a crack is no picnic either, let alone $5,000 for a new trans if it hasn't been replaced already.

really? only if it only has 83,000 miles on it with no problems? and i no the guy who is selling it and he has taken good care of it?

Yes, problems with that trans are unavoidable.

P.S. He is lying about not having any problems.

If it has to be auto get a quattro. It will drive better anyway. Otherwise get a manual trans.

did the cvt get better in 2003?
and around what mileage did the 2002 cvt start to take a ****?

The CVT trans wan't good until late 04, and even then it still sucks. They can develop problems at just about any mileage, since the list of problems is so long it really isn't mileage dependant. Do yourself a favor and stay away from the CVT.

I'm also looking into getting a B6 for the Wife, are the CVT only in Front wheel drive or quattro also? Did the B7 also have the problematic CVT?
