Default Coolant Fan Control Module P1931

Hey Guys,

My car has been running hot while idling. I recently ran the codes and the following error came up "Coolant Fan Control Module P1931". This basically means that neither of my radiator fans are working. Normally I drive on the highway to work and back, so it is barely noticable, however any city driving I do, the engine gets hot if i hit a lot of lights. I checked the in cabin fuse, and it was fine. I however neglected to check if there was a second fuse in the engine bay. Has anyone had this issue before? Any tips on what to check or change? I did a search on ECS Tuning, but was only able to find something related to an auxiliary fan (cant seem to find it this morning). I did do a search, but wasn't able to find any specific information.

Thanks,

Update:

For those searching, i found a DIY for the Fan Control Module. I was contacted a dealer about the part, and they wanted $300, which I guess is fair, but elsewhere would be cheaper. I still have not been able to find the part online anywhere else.

Not sure. I am hoping since it was the same error code as the DIY that it would be the same fix. I found the control module at a local import auto shop for $230. Hopefully I will have the time to try this out tonight.

That's a good point, mine might end up doing the same though, I'm on the mid 80's K mile range so things will start to go wrong. Is also really hard to find some DIY for the 3.0!

Alright, so I replaced the control module last night, and did not resolve the issue. I am still getting a CEL, but it was getting late and dark last night so I didn't bother to get the codes. Next step is to check the relays and see if they look good. Apparently they are prone to moisture damage. Additionally, when I picked up the control module from the dealer, I was told that when the relay goes bad, it can short out the radiator fan, which would then need to be replaced.
