Default Difference between A4 1.8T and TT 1.8T engine

Hi all,

Does anyone know if there are any significant differences between the 2005 A4 1.8T engine and the 2005 TT 1.8T engine (i.e. block, head, turbo, etc)? I'm just curious why the A4 is rated for 170hp and the TT is rated for 225hp.

Thanks!

It was all turbo, the A4 came with a K03 while the 225hp TT came with a large K04. There was also a 180hp version of the TT which came with a K03 stock.

Interesting...I was thinking of getting my ECU reprogrammed to squeeze 225hp out of my A4, but sounds like the smaller turbo might not handle it well. Any thoughts on whether or not the ECU program would be a good idea?

A chip can squeeze 318 hp out of a 250 hp 2.7T. That's about a 27% increase. Same ratio should apply to the 1.8T since both have K03 turbos, stock. Not quite 225, but close.

225hp at the crank is possible but not on your normal chip tunes running normal boost levels on pump gas. It is possible to get that on race gas seeing that I made 250hp at the crank on a customer K03 tune on 104 octane. But those numbers have never really been done since and its been 8 years since I did it.

Thanks for the replies guys, seems like 225hp would be possible, but I'm more concerned if it is a "safe" mod, or if it is going to cause my turbo/engine to take a dump in the not too distant future. Do you guys know anyone that has done a similar mod and what the outcome has been, is it reliable? I did research a while back into companies that do these mods (APR tuning, AWE tuning), but of course none of them want to tell you their programs blow up engines, so just trying to get an unbiased source of info.

The normal chips are pretty safe, chip tuning for the A4 for has been around for well over 10 years.
