Default Cracked Dipstick Tube

I have a 2003 a4 1.8T and when I was checking the oil the orange dipstick tube broke. Is it safe to drive the car till I pick up a new one?

That just happened to me. As long as it was the little circle on top that you put your finger in to remove it your o.k. to drive. if the base that the dipstick goes into is cracked you will need to change that asap

Yeah it cracked all the way down to the top of the metal tube.

I drove mine without that part to get the new one and it was fine.

Default Hey! I can help! I acutally know something!

I have the same car/year/engine. I got a replacement at the VW dealer, the part number is on the tube, and save 1/3rd so I only got half shafted (or would that be 1/6th?)

Why anyone would engineer a plastic part so close to a hot turbo leaves me shaking my head. My neighbor's 2000 Passat with the 3.0 is metal.....
