Crankcase Pipe Removal?

Crankcase Pipe Removal?
My old crankcase pipe (or breather pipe) is broken off down to the hole it fits into above the oil filter. The "brass" looking inner pipe shows but not much of the hard plastic.
I found other posts on changing this breakable pipe and all say it is not a problem.
Is the inner pipe metal or some sort of hard plastic? If metal, I might try to bend it inward to free it up.
Any other tips on getting it out?
Many thanks,
John

Problem Solved
I crushed the other end of the old pipe and it bent, not cracked, so it is metal.
I then clamped the lip of the pipe stuck in the oil filter housing with a needle nose vise grip so it could not fall in. Next, wedged a long screwdriver between metal lip and oil filter housing and twisted the screwdriver which bent the metal lip inward. After a little of this, the lip loosened and I could pull it out.
Be careful not to drop stuff in the oil filter housing.
If anyone has another solution, maybe that could help others.
WARNING: I also broke off one piece on the circular fitting on the oil filter housing. It was from prying with the screwdriver wedged between metal lip and oil filter housing. This is the piece with the slot for the locking "u" so the slot is open to the air on one side. The locking "u" locks however.
