Default Crankshaft question

so long story short I had a water pump leak and I had to replace the gasket... anywayz when I put my timing belt back on and tried to tight all 4 screws on camshaft rollers my crankshaft moved by one tooth (i didnt use the lockpin but my camshafts are locked with the lock tools) so now my question is can I move it back that one tooth w/o any issues ? Also is it ok to move crankshaft back and forth like that by a tooth or two or w/e just asking to check if my in case i move it to far and the timing on the cover and the crankshaft pulley is off and I will have to adjust it.

Just be carefull when turning the crank, there are two kinds of resistance..... compression and a valve. You don't want to turn against a valve.

More than 2 teeth and its most likely a valve.... But yes you can to adjust the timing. But i would install the bottom plastics and crank pulley and make sure your using the audi timing marks, not the ones you made

Yeah, i just moved it back and forth with the plastic and pulley on to adjust it to the Audi timing.

Another question though, after installing timing belt I need to set exhaust adjustment variable using audi special tool T40028 can someone tell me what it does and what happens if i mess it up and turn it too far or can i turn it too far ?
