CVT advice - performance, longevity, issues
2005 Audi A4 1.8T CVT
I have no experience with CVT, and would like to learn about:
a) Performance (compared to manual and conventional TIP)
b) Longevity: how are they holding up? What maintenance is recommended?
c) Known issues, fixes?
d) Tuning: safe power limits. What can the CVT handle (stage 2? mild stage 3)?
Any inputs, comments, experience, links, etc. are appreciated.

they have hugely expensive issues (or failures) that happen on almost every single one.read the sticky in the b6 section. most of the CVT owners on here announce an upcoming $4000 repair or $7000 replacement transmission.
stay far, far away from the CVT. if you want a fwd audi, buy it with a manual transmission. if you want an auto, buy a quattro and deal with the slight loss in gas mileage.

I agree, stay away from cvt. you will have alot of problems. I have an 04 with 79k and I already had to spend 5000 to replace the tran control module (2700 fix), oil pressure regulator, cam seals, water pump, timing belt, coolant flange and more. I only had this for about 6 months before I started having issues. Take it from me, stay away from cvt. I wish I came to this site before I bought it.
