Default CVT problems-need advice

Hey everybody,

im new to audiforums so ill introduce myself
my name is Daniel, im a Salesperson and i drive
a great car, i love my car, i just hate having to go
visit my chaps at the Audi dealership!

i drive a 2004 Audi A4 1.8T Avant CVT 6speed multritronic
that so many have been getting problems with,.
i have almost 170,000km on it now, and just not long
ago my car is gone bonkers, audi tells me its the TCU
and it costs about $2500 to replace!
no problem i say, do u take cash or cheque?!!! shoot thats
expensive!! ive been doing a lot of research especially reading all the
cvt posts here,
so guys help me out,

this is where iam at:
iam either able to trade it in for a 2001 S4 or 2000 BMW 323i
or pay probably closer to $3k for replacing TCU
or just get a brand new transmission rebuilt with all upgrades.

what u say?

get another car in my opinion.
you clearly want to have some power and go fast, the CVT is simply not the transmission to be doing that with. where an B5 S4 would be nice and was my original intent, I don't feel that i would be happy going back a body style after having a B6. If i were in your shoes, i would trade it in for a 04 or 05 A4 (B6), 1.8t quttro, with a 6 speed manual transmission, tiptronic if you have to have an auto. with a 28 series turbo on it you could easily be on par with a stock S4 or much more. but thats just me...

the only way i would go back to BMW is if it were a E46 M3.
