I will be replacing the driver side front Axle on my 2003 A4 Quattro 3.0. The CV boot is ripped for a while now and has major vibrations during acceleration.

My indy quoted me $371... A quote from FCP Euro tells me I can get the part for $100.. after watching a few DIY videos, the job looks like a piece of cake barely taking an DIYer an hour to complete.

Is it really that easy? Anyone want to share any current experiences? I did some searching and read some comments, but always looking for more!

It's pretty straight forward, just take your time and follow directions...as far as your quote, it's almost spot on:

Part $120+ (if they are getting an OEM part, MORE)
Labor about 1.5 - 2 hours @ $80-$100 (don't know what your shop labor rate is)

Total would be anywhere from $280+ tax.....

For anyone still following this... I did the work today. It was pretty easy. But i will tell you, contrary to what you read in DIY guides, the 2003 A4 3.0 Quattro (B6) DOES have a heat shield above where the axle attaches to the transmission on the DRIVER side.

One of my bolt heads got stripped, and we ended up breaking off the heat shield. It still works as the other two bolts are plenty to hold it in place.
