EPC Light & Stalling
I have a 2002 A4 3.0L, its the love of my life. Occasionally when I start it, it will take a few seconds to turn over then the EPC light will come on. But if i turn it off and restart it, it starts just fine and the light turns off. If i drive with the EPC light still on, it drives like absolute crap. This morning on my way to work the EPC light wouldn't turn off and after driving about 5 min, while stopped at a red light the car just stalled. it only took a few seconds to start back up thank goodness. Does anyone know what is wrong with it?
Hi,
I had similar problems on my 1.8T. It ended up being my Crankshaft sensor (also known as engine speed sensor and some other names).
Next time your driving it, keep an eye on the engine temp gauge. If it works fine when its a cold start, however it seems to struggle when the engine is warm - then I would think you have the same problem. When the EPC light comes on, it is best to read the engine management code to confirm if this is indeed the problem.
If so, easy fix. You need a new crankshaft sensor ( Bosch one cost me £90, generic one's are cheaper but not sure if they work as well) and at most a garage should only harge you 1 hr labour. I do believe its something you can do yourself if you want to get your hands dirty.
