Fault Code 16395 & 17704
#1
Fault Code 16395 & 17704
2002 A4 1.8T 200,000km
The CEL came on steady, so I scanned the car and it came up with:
Address 01: Engine Labels: 06B-909-518-AMB.lbl
Part No SW: 8E0 909 518 G HW: 8E0 909 018
Component: 1.8L R4/5VT G 0004
Coding: 0016581
Shop #: WSC 63351 000 00000
VCID: 3469E0CB54C8B9B8F43
3 Faults Found:
17887 - Brake Boost Vacuum System
- P1479 - 008 - Mechanical Failure
16395 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake)
- P0011 - 002 - Retard Setpoint not Reached (Over-Advanced) - Intermittent
17704 - Error in Mapped Cooling System (check Temp-Sensor and Thermostat)
- P1296 - 008 - - MIL ON
Readiness: 0000 1000
My concern is with the camshaft, and the cooling system (mechanic says to ignore the brake boost until it becomes a noticable problem).
I cleared the codes since it was intermittent, and waited to see if it would come back. About 75km later, the CEL was back on, and same faults.
I did notice that since the day right before my CEL came on the first time, that the tempurature for my engine barely changes from when it's cold. I can drive 100km and the needle only moves up to the first line. The car should run at 90 degrees, but sticks to approximately 55-60 degrees.
Are these two faults related? Any ideas on where to start?
